“Industrie 2025” is an initiative to anchor the vision of industry 4.0 in Swiss small and medium enterprises. The working group “Thinking in Digital Business Models” focuses on digital business models and develops pragmatic methods for their implementation. 1 Portrait of the initiative “Industrie 2025”
“Industrie 2025” platform is the initiative of the four associations asut, Electrosuisse, Swissmem and SwissTnet. Under this name, the initiative wants to introduce and anchor the vision of Industry 4.0 and related concepts in the Swiss workplace. The ultimate goal is to safeguard and expand the competitiveness of Swiss companies and the Swiss workplace. Specifically, we want to inform, sensitize, network and promote the stakeholders involved in the topic of Industry 4.0.
2 Working Group: Thinking in Digital Business Models
Companies are successful if they manage to grow profitably in the long term. The innovation is the central driver. Traditionally, the innovation focus is on the products, services and value-adding processes of the company. However, the advancing digitization now opens up limits as far as business has been done so fast. Higher goals can be achieved with new resources and new rules. Entirely unknown companies enter traditional markets as game changers. Innovation in the business model is therefore a top priority in order to plan long-term success. The catalog of entrepreneurial opportunities and challenges is increasing: for everyone and the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in particular.
2.1 Objective
The working group “Thinking in Digital Business Models” creates transparency in terms of digital business models and develops suggestions for handy, pragmatic methods on how the digital journey can be tackled in the context of Industry 4.0. The group summarizes known knowledge and enriches it with new, to be worked out findings. For the benefit of industrial companies in general and SMEs in particular. The work results are published in understandable and clear formats.

2.2 Content
The working group “Thinking in Digital Business Models” focuses on topics that benefit Switzerland as a workplace. Following a few possible topics (not binding).
- What is meant by “digital business models”?
- Overview of categories, types of digital business models
- How can they be rated?
- Differentiation of incrementally developed models to those with disruptive potential
- Approach to the innovation of business models, methods and possible tools
- Specific challenges of change management for changing the business model
- Set of implemented examples for inspiration and analysis
2.3 Organization
“Industrie 2025” provides the infrastructure for the working groups and performs administrative work. Technical and organizational topics are determined primarily by the working group itself in consultation with “Industrie 2025”.
2.4 Members
The participants are partners of the initiative “Industrie 2025”, actors from the Swiss workplace, R&D representatives as well as other proven specialists who have profound know-how as well as relevant knowledge and / or experience in the context of digital business models. Participation in the working group must be approved by “Industrie 2025”.
